Hailsa! If you are of the 'folkish' persuation, "Welcome Friend." If you are not, "Be Welcome Traveler."
The Hofbrau Kindred is a small kindred located in Indianapolis, IN, and we practice what could be called traditional Asatru. We do 10 regular Blots and 3 days of remembrance throughout the year.

We have a suburban location with a substantial stone horg (altar) in our backyard. We have been functioning as a kindred since early spring 1995. I, John, have been Gothi since the beginning, and Sharon has been Gythja since Yule of 1996. An ongoing project within our kindred, is the brewing of good mead and ale, to share with the Aesir and Vanir. We also endeavor to teach our members, from both the Eddas and Sagas, and from contemporary sources.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the term "folkish". This simply means to us that a person chooses to live the "Folkway", and to worship the tribal or indigenous Gods, that are manifest in their culture or heritage. We believe that the Aesir and Vanir are cultural expressions of the Northern European Peoples, as well as our Elder Kin. And we endeavor to revive their best aspects.

Some of us have come to our cultural Gods by way of neo-paganism, but we do not seek to be "universalist" or "politically correct", as many pagans currently teach. We are not politically motivated, and have no tolerance for neo-nazism, or hatred of other cultures. We believe that each culture has their own distinctive dieties and heritage, which should be passed down through their generations. We feel that assimilation, or adoption of another culture or religion, is detrimental to your own. We seek to make "our troth", and the concepts of the Nine Noble Virtues, available to others of our culture. We are the ancestors of our decendents, and strive to set an example for our family-oriented kindred, so that our children may continue to keep our Gods alive.

We live the Nine Noble Virtues, These virtues are: Courage, to stand up for your word and beliefs; Honor, for inner value and worth; Truth, to be honest in all dealings; Fidelity, to our Gods, family, and oaths; Dicipline, in the face of adversity; Hospitality, a plate and a cup at our table, for our brethren; Industriousness, self-supporting and hard working; Self-reliance, the freedom and independence that our culture thrives on; and Perseverance, in finishing a task to its end.

Sharon and I are both members of the Asatru Folk Assembly, and our kindred is a member of the Asatru Alliance. We, and our kindred, wholeheartedly stand behind the rules and obligations of our membership.

We are, at this point, open to new members, who are dedicated and interested in the cultural Gods of our folk. If you wish to contact us for information, or are interested in joining us, we offer our e-mail and snail-mail addresses below.
